Just thought I'd put this out there as something I was thinking about.
What if stable/kennel owners could purchase additional services that their facility can offer to boarders?
For Stables: - Option to purchase a Vet Service (Equine Vet) - Option to purchase a Farrier Service
For Kennels: - Option to purchase a Vet Service (Canine Vet) - Option to purchase a Groomer Service
Once the services are purchased by a stable/kennel owner, their stable and/or kennel now "offers these services" to any animal boarded at their facility. For boarded animals, that would mean one of the following (to be decided): - Discounted services (taking boarded animals to vet/farrier/groomer costs less) - Longer time between needing services (instead of two weeks, extends to three weeks or four, or something) - OR suspends the need for services altogether while the animal is boarded in a place that offers that service (I'm leaning against this option simply because we already know we don't want to remove elements of gameplay)
These services can expire with the upgrade, or maybe they need to be purchased on a monthly basis. Can be store items or Cash Shop items. Those details can be hashed out.
I know there's been concerns about balancing the economy with these kinds of gameplay/store additions, with the primary goal of removing HPD from the economy to combat inflation. The way the current player base operates with stables/kennels is pretty simple; our basic players board their animals externally, and they usually only board with places that have free boarding. Most of us use stables/kennels to board our own animals and that's it. Adding this to the game offers perks for those who find the vet/farrier/groomer requirements tedious, making it worthwhile to them to invest the HPD in buying these services, which them removes HPD from the economy.
There will be players who would like to charge board rates for offering additional services, and there will be players who don't find it worth it to adjust board rates for additional services and will continue to offer free boarding to basic players.
There will be players who don't view the perks as worth the HPD, and they can choose not to purchase them. It still remains an opt-in gameplay element.
And while we're at it, would it be possible to add a notification option that sends stable/kennel owners a notification when animals belonging to a new PID are boarded at their facilities? Something that can be turned off in settings with the other notifications (I just feel horrible when I don't check in to my stable/kennel regularly and someone's boarded there but I haven't fed because I didn't realize I had a new boarder :P)
