Tell us your favorite holiday tradition!

Mine is on Christmas day, someone will hide the Christmas Pickle, it's just a small green pickle ornament, but can be incredibly hard to find on any size tree. Whoever finds it usually get's some little prize like a gift card or something along those lines.
My brother and I will push each other out of the way trying to find this little pickle ornament, but it's always so much fun!

end date: Dec 10th at 11:59pm hp time
award: 2,000 points to any animal

The day after thanksgiving, all of my Long distance female family get together and make thousands of christmas cookies and we all get to decorate. Even the toddlers get to participate. And we have a deviled eggs contest too -- to see who can get the closest to the "secret family recipe" that's been handed down for years.

My favourite Christmas tradition is really centred around food. Growing up in NZ we have bbqs more than a traditional turkey.

Mum always made a pavlova (don't let the aussies tell you it's Australian!) and that reminds me of home πŸ’“

My favorite tradition is March 17th Saint Patricks Day.. All 5 of us dress in green and take our picture. It doesn't always turn out the best trying to get 3 kids to smile and face the camera at the same time.. I love looking back on the photos and see how much the kids have changed over the years. We started doing this in March 2016. My oldest was born Dec 2015 so we've never missed a year since our oldest was born. :-)

My favorite Christmas Tradition is always sitting around the livingroom fireplace with just us 5.. watching the kids open their presents on Christmas! So excited to see their faces when they open them! All the hussle and bussle of Christmas day afterwards visiting family is ok.. The morning is always the best!

My second favorite is my birthday is Dec 22nd and we always go looking at Christmas lights on my birthday night. We have a couple of shows around here that are Christmas Lights to music (really cool if you haven't experienced) and a couple of different big town displays.

My family used to be close. Time, hatred, and distance have driven us apart. But one of my favorite memories is when my uncle used to drive us kids out on Christmas Eve. He'd play Christmas music for us in his beat up Ford Escort.Β

Now that I'm older, I know he was just driving us to a radio tower with a blinking red light at the top. But he told us then, it was Rudolph. Then he'd drive us back, whether through snow or ice? and we'd open presents. None of us see each other anymore. Not me and my cousins, not me and my uncle. It's different, life is lonely. And good things don't last.

But it's my favorite memory. A time when things were more pure. When we all loved each other.

I am not positive how this even became a tradition but each christmas sometime the week or so before the holiday my sister and I always watch Finding Nemo. We have done it almost every single year since the movie came out. We also always open 1 present christmas eve after we got home from church. We have since stopped since my sister has had children (they do not stay up late enough to go to midnight mass) and we save them all for christmas day instead!

My favorite holiday tradition was going to my paternal grandmother's house on Christmas Eve for dinner and gifts. We did that up until probably.... 2019 or so? Unfortunately, my grandmother has dementia and it was around this time, maybe sooner, that it became obvious and so that tradition came to an end. She doesn't really remember holidays, but if you remind her, she gets upset with guilt that she didn't get anyone anything, even though she's in a memory care facility. So we just don't let her know it's Christmas. I miss those days at her house, and those memories are especially treasured now.

One Christmas tradion my family has more recently started over the years, especially now after my grandparents have passed away, is to have a Scandinavian themed meal for Christmas even dinner, due to our Nowegian/Swedish heritage. We have oyster stew, herring, lefse, and the occasion lutefisk (not for the faint of heart xD) as well as some tasty dessert treats as well like kringle.Β

My favorite Christmas tradition is just that we get together as a family and do dinner! Nothing too complicated or fancy, just like that we make a point to get together and spend time with family.

Christmas looks a little different each year since my husband and I got married, trying to juggle both our families. However, one tradition from my childhood remains, and that is going to my Mommom's house for Christmas Day. Family from out of state comes, my parents, my siblings and all our significant others. We do lunch/dinner and then open gifts. Usually "A Christmas Story" is playing in the background somewhere. Ever since I was a little kid I have looked forward to "Christmas Day at Mommom's."
