Tell us your favorite holiday tradition!

Mine is on Christmas day, someone will hide the Christmas Pickle, it's just a small green pickle ornament, but can be incredibly hard to find on any size tree. Whoever finds it usually get's some little prize like a gift card or something along those lines.
My brother and I will push each other out of the way trying to find this little pickle ornament, but it's always so much fun!

end date: Dec 10th at 11:59pm hp time
award: 2,000 points to any animal

So my favorite family tradition was getting together at my great grandparents house. They were the hub of the family and I miss when everyone would get together. Now that they have passed on, all my close family moved but I love that I have the memories that we all made together. I know this isn't really a "tradition" but it was our family thing

my favourite christmas tradition is going to my grandma's and grandpa's house and baking holiday treats for either ourselves or family gatherings. All though we don't do it very often anymore as grandpa has since passed away but I still like to carry on the tradition even though its not the same without grandpa.

The best tradition for me is waking up in the morning and baking cinnonmin rolls, then we would eat them for breakfast.

I don't have any family traditions.  But my mom, sister and I would all pitch in to make supper. We just kinda do whatever on christmas day. I will go feed the horses, take pictures.  When my dad was alive we would watch a movie in his room (he wasn't able to get around much so his room was on the main floor)

I only have one real tradition, which is to watch "Donald's Christmas". It's tradition in Sweden to watch Disneys Christmas greetings, always at 3 pm on telly.

We'd all gather in front of the telly, then it was time to open the gifts together. :D

My favourite christmas tradition was when my parents where still alive, I'd go to my parents house and we'd eat yummi snacks and dinner that my mother made, Eat fried doughballs ( A dutch delicaty, somewhat like doughnuts) and unwrap presents. I truely miss those times that I would just sit around the christmas tree with my parents, drink a coffee and eat delicious food.

My parents built a gingerbread house kit with my sister and I every year and we decorated it with all kinds of different candy. No one ever ate the thing but it was just a fun tradition every year and was so pretty to look at all December.

Now I get to share this tradition with my son.

My mother-in-law started baking the pieces for a gingerbread house and putting them together with all the grandkids at her house. And making our own icing. Then each grandkid gets to decorate their own house with different candies and bring them home afterwards. My son asks all year long if "Grandma is going to do gingerbread houses again this year?" This year will be a little different though as half of the grandkids ended up moving to TX back in June so they won't be there for gingerbread houses this year (we're in New England).

My current favorite tradition is I get up really early on Christmas morning. I turn on the tree lights. I fill the stockings. I make sure the cats didn't destroy any of the presents overnight. Then I sit on the couch in the dark, just the tree lights, and wait for my kids to get up. There's nothing better than the looks on their faces with the tree, the presents... it's indescribable.

Our family tradition is game night on Christmas Day evening. It's the only time of the year we play games!

We used to spend every christmas eve at my other half's parents house, but since we bought our house three years ago we have been hosting it at our house. His parents are getting up in age and it was too much for them. It's just nice to see everyone come together and we let the kids pass out the presents every year.

I'm going to put down two...

- Going to the 613 Christmas Flea. The 613 Flea is a craft/vintage market that happens every few weeks at an old exhibition pavilion on Saturdays, but the Christmas one is held at a building on one of the university campuses we have in the city, and it's both Saturday and Sunday. It has a lot of the same vendors as the normal one, but also others. It's my favourite one to attend every year for all of the vintage christmas ornaments and decorations the vintage sellers have...it's super nostalgic for me of growing up and seeing the decorations at my grandparents' houses.

- Cutting down the christma tree. We go as a family to one of the local tree farms and have a mini competition to find THE tree for the year. My sister and I in particular get a bit too competitive with it lol. Often these farms have a horse-drawn sleigh/wagon to and from the tree lot, free hot chocolate, cookies, a fire to warm up around, etc. I also find a tree and take my annual "blitz is taller than a tree" photo, as I'm quite short (5'1.5") so finding a tree I can put my hand over and say I'm taller than it is super fun! We also typically do tree cutting with my dad's best friend's family (although not this year sadly!), then have them over for dinner and pictionary afterwards.

In my family when I was a kid, then a teen, 2 of my 3 sibs and I would get VHS tapes for Christmas. In the fortnight before the Big Day, we would get the Christmas edition of the TV guide (TV Times) and sit at the kitchen table, or lie on the living room floor with a pen, and circle the shows and movies we wanted to record.

There were often disagreements about who was going to record what, but everyone was going to have access to the tapes, so it didn't actually matter.

I moved out of my family home around 23 years ago, and I still have loads of old tapes in a closet.

Those days were during the '80s and '90s. I'm now 45.

My current tradition is watching The Santa Clause and having some eggnog! :)
I'm also the one who puts the lights on our tree and makes the green bean casserole dish for family dinner.

My mom gets me an advent calender every year. Usually it was chocolates but now there are so many different interesting ones! Lotions and soaps and candles, etc! I love opening it each day :)

Christmas at the beach! After a big Christmas lunch, we all pack up and head to the beach for an afternoon/evening of cricket, swimming, MORE eating and a whole lot of fun. We have such a large collection of families that turn up, kids and dogs running everywhere. It's so great.
