As some of you are aware, out in the real world, I am working on building up my broodmare herd.
Meet my newest purchase: Drift!
RR DOCS SNOW DRIFT is a 4 year old AQHA mare with running lineage.

She comes to us very skinny, and hard to catch, and untouched in every way.

Last night we FINALLY detangled her tail.
Took two people as she still can't be tied much.

Your patience will pay off though, shes really getting there and she will be a good assest to your breeding programme!

The thing I said to Adam is so long as she's catchable and tyable and breedable...
Because she is already matured so we will see!

She should come around, matures or not, just takes time :)

How's she been doing?

Good.
Still hard to catch but getting less time consuming each time
(Down from two hours and three people to 45 minutes and just me!)

With 5 months passing since my last update, it's definitely time for another!
Some of you are on my FB, and may have seen a lady named Sam post about this lovely mare.
(In a post that genuinely made me bawl)

She has come so, so far.

Not long after I made this post, we had a fence down incident due to moose being moose.
Drift escaped, but luckily only went a little ways to my friend's house, who also has horses.
She was content to join her mares.
This is where it got.... tricky.
See, Drift had started to willingly let me touch her.
And even move her into pens as needed by following me (and the oats).
But haltering her was a minimum 3 person job, and required a pen that was quite small.

So here she was at a friends place.
Hanging in a pasture with no safe catch space.
With 3 wire barbed wire fence whicH we knew she could jump if frightened 
(sidenote, that 100% happened at my parents and when pushed and terrified, she is a runner).
Luckily, she followed me into the trailer because oats the bond we had built.
Unluckily, it was unsafe to halter her.
Here is where I made a decision.

I could have brought her home.  
Instead I sent her to my friend Sam for some training.
She has an indoor arena, and is an amazing horsewoman and does it full time.

Suffice to say she has come very, very far.

She gets to come home today!  I am very nervous and excited!

Long, LONG, overdue Drift update!

Drift came home in February.

The trainer that I chose is a personal friend of many years, and was amazing.
Due to this we were able to train her together; I spent 3-4 nights a week there through November, and December.

I am happy to report that not only is she now catchable - but she is so easy to catch a child can catch her.
She is the first one to the fence, and loves being handled byt pretty much everyone.
She is also easy to load, and unload.
Excellent with her feet - can tie up and a farrier can do her tied.
Absolutely an angel.

And to top it off - we got her broke to ride!

She is off being bred and I crossing fingers!

She is home now, and the breeders stated she is "a pleasure to have, truly a remarkably sweet horse."

Drift colour tested with no silver.

She came back cream, over bay, no signs of silver.
She did have dominant agouti, so it's likely the cream at play with the agouti causing her lighter mane bits.

I really loved seeing all the progress you made with her. I'm currently training four AQHA broodmares and they are all such sweet girls. It drives me insane when people look at broodmares as baby machines and don't even halter break them (two of the ones I'm working with were basically feral at first). I firmly believe that unless they are broodmare sound only, they need to have a job other than just making babies! Fit mommas are happy mommas! 

Reading this post and all the updates just made my heart so dang happy!
