Today, Kaleiya went to a new vet to get a second opinion on what's been going on. This one was a holistic vet that looked at her overall health, rather than just piecing together her cough or her eye infection. Almost instantly, this vet said that it is Blastomycosis, a fungal infection that causes limping, uveitis (her eye infection), anorexia, lethargy, fever, and coughing/difficulty breathing. She has also had a fever of 103.7 for three weeks now, which hasn't been phased by antibiotics. He is running a blood test and we get the results tomorrow. If she does have Blasto, treatment can be up to $1,000. I'm hoping I can pick up enough hours at work to cover this. Otherwise, I won't be able to afford treatment for her. This new vet said that the steroids that the old vet put her on for what he thought was bronchitis have actually ended up feeding the infection and making the situation worse. If we don't get her treatment started soon, she will lose her left eye, and the disease will eventually be fatal. Horse Phenomena's Top Fox Breeder |

We have been going through something similar with our cat... Just took her to the vet and with the mediciations and blood tests it cost almost $400.... She is on three medications but all the blood work came back normal, so were unsure what the issue is. Its like she has a cold that just won't go away... Running nose, sneezing, eye infection and she isn't eating. Boyfriend says if she doesn't get better we might just have to put her down.... Makes me so sad but she is an older cat. At least you have a diagnosis, hope every goes well! It's so difficult when our fur babies get sick... |

I am so sorry to hear this :( In a way, it might be a relief if it comes back positive so you will know what exactly is wrong, but I'm praying for you to be able to be able to do the treatment! Do they take payments? Could you take out a loan for it, or a go-fund me? |

Fwiw there's a horse at my barn that had chronic uvitis (he used to have to wear a fly mask pretty much always, with a patch over the one eye that had it). He started getting abscesses in it as well and had the eye removed to end his pain from it, and is now like a new horse, completely unaffected!
Either way, poor puppy! Hope everything works out ok! |
