Just a quick thank you to all of y'all who have messaged me or snapchatted me to ask about an update on Kaleiya. It means so much to me. I figured I'd post an update on here so you guys would see it. 

For those of you who didn't know, Kaleiya started having coughing spells shortly before her birthday. They would last for 30-45 minutes at a time, and she'd cough up white mucous. I took her to the vet and she was given antibiotics and steroids to treat bronchitis. She was so much better and didn't cough at all for the first time in a long time while she was on the meds. However, the day after she finished her course of antibiotics, she quickly stopped being herself. Her cough came back, in addition to swollen, bloodshot eyes, lethargy, limping, and she would not eat or drink anything. I took her back in and they did x-rays and blood work to check for deeper issues. All of her tests came back normal, and the vet thinks it's just a chronic bronchitis that the first round of antibiotics didn't treat. So, she's on new antibiotics that he's hoping will help treat the bronchitis, but also any other infection that could be hiding in her body. 

He said that she has anterior uveitis in her eyes, which is painful and terrible and if it isn't treated, she could lose her vision. So, she is on a steroid ointment 3 times a day to help combat that. She doesn't look at me for 20 minutes after each application because she's mad at me about how much it hurts when we have to do that one. 

He didn't have any answers for the limping, other than maybe it's like when you have the flu and your joints hurt. She does have a swollen wrist that he felt and noticed immediately, but she doesn't have any obvious wounds or cuts, so I guess that rules out any kind of spider or snake bite that could cause swelling in her wrist. 

She does have a low-grade fever that is consistent and makes her kind of weak and she doesn't have energy to get up or roll over. Today, she's been a lot better, but her eyes are still glossy, her limping is worse, and her breathing is still a little raspy. Thank you all for checking in on my poor little baby. I've never had a sick pet before and it's so unnerving. :(

During my time at home from working extra shifts to pay for her xrays, she's been very clingy and cuddly, and comes up to me and little-spoons herself so that i have pet her in all of her favorite spots while she sleeps and tries to feel better.

Oh goodness :((( I don't quite know you, but empathize as a fellow dog lover and owner. It can be downright scary when our babies are sick, especially when it's not cut and dry as to why. It sounds like your pup is in great hands with an owner who cares, not all dogs get to be that lucky. Sending positive, healing vibes to your pup tonight!

Aww poor girl. I hope she's on the mend now! It's so hard. When you descirbed the coughing it reminded me of my old dalmatian. She started having really bad coughing fits and when we had her checked out she had really bad heart worms and they were in her lungs too, they were young adult stage so we opted to start her on preventative. It would eventually kill the adults and keep any new ones from appearing. She wouldn't have survived treatment.

I hope youre girl gets better soon, it sucks having sick pets.
