So for those unaware, imgur is now gone for the UK, it no longer works nor can anyone in the UK see anything uploaded via Imgur. 

I figured I'd post this as an awareness announcement as a lot of graphics people use imgur, just unfortunately now, anyone from the UK cannot see anything anyone uploads using the site now.

as for someone from the UK..  pls use something else so I can see all pretty art again 😭

I'm currently working on club layouts, and I'm using Imgur to upload my club layout photos and every time I go into it, all of them are gone except for 1 image. I'm not in the UK, I'm down in Canada but still that's very odd that it can no longer be used in the UK. :( 

i wonder who else is will be effected by this change?

Yeahhh I saw that so I've been using a site that is also my local library vpn approves of as I can't use imgur there when I go.

Thanks for the heads-up, Whim! I have been using imgbb.com You can upload items, select an auto-delete date, or have it kept forever, create albums, organize, etc. Hopefully this one works for those in the UK! 

Oh nooo!!! I have SO much on imgur. I will work on moving stuff over so everyone can see it no matter where theyre viewing from. That SUCKS! Why would they make it where you can't even see the images that is so crazy!! Thank you for the heads up whim, and Day Dream and awd for the recs on other sites. I'll definitely be trying those out! I use Imgbox (https://imgbox.com) for my image uploading. I never really used Imgur as it stated on their TOS that they're not an image hosting site and could ban hotlinking. So I figured I wouldn't want to re-upload everything somewhere else if that did happen. XD

A VPN will fix it.

Unfortunately a VPN won't fix it, its due to new laws in the UK, even a bypass won't help with it, i thought I was going loopy at first until I read about it online :')

Whim, I've been using a VPN for Opera, and the site works perfectly. Some other sites don't allow VPNs, so won't work properly. When I use those, I turn it off.

A thing I hate about Imgur is their "Thigh High Thursday" (THT). There's another day (can't remember which) where you see pics of women's boobage, but ( often barely) covered. It's a mild form of p**n, and I'm sick of it.

honestly i've given up with it, the only VPN's I've found what work with imgur cost money, and its not worth paying for just to see peoples pictures xD I'm just going to stick to imgbb lmao

It's due to a new policy in the UK, something about privacy etc. Honestly this place has gone downhill so quickly with our new PM so it doesn't shock me at all

It's a law in the UK called the Online Safety Act that was passed I think 2 or 3 years ago but just started with heavy enforcement in the past few months. It's one of those laws that use "Protect the Children" as a way to censor content and place surveillance on internet users, similiar to the laws they're currently trying to pass in the US as well. The much-used  method of "Click here if you're over the age of 13" is no longer an acceptable means of age verification as it can obviously be bypassed if you lie about it. Now websites are required to collect either images of people's License/Photo ID or an actual photo of their face for facial recoginition scanning to confirm age. This includes all social media websites and platforms, and a lot of sites that allow users to post their own content, as well as obviously adult websites. X/Twitter, Bluesky, Spotify, Discord and Reddit are sites/platforms now requiring the UK's age verification. Wikipedia was also forced to implement age verification, they took the UK to court to try and prevent from having to do so, but they ended up losing their court case and now have to comply. I'm sure there are more websites that also added the verification, but these are the first I saw when looking it up.

Adding these verifications are not easy or cheap, and some sites don't want to risk having to host all this personal information if they should suffer a data breach. Many UK based small forums and sites have just opted to shut down instead of facing the insane fees. I looked up Imgur, and it seems the UK has already slapped them with a "pending" fine for not having age verification. And the fines are severe... £18 million (Which is $24,284,227 USD) OR 10% of the company's entire global revenue, for those mega-companies where a set fine is a slap on the wrist. So in the end Imgur just shut down UK access in hopes of avoiding the fine, but it may still end up having to pay it.

Also many sites state that VPN usage went up so much after this law went into effect that the UK Government is considering bringing in a new law that bands ownership and usage of VPN's for internet users to avoid enforcement of the Online Safety Act law. I wouldn't doubt that some VPN's that were either based in the UK or had UK servers now are scrambling to shut down or leave the region. 

Sorry if this was long but this is a topic that comes up often on my Youtube feed so I've been keeping up to date with it. So hope this helps with anyone curious about whats going on.
