August 2025 ~ Pet of the Month!

Nova (#15591) has a whole lotta heart for this big gal! * Name of Your Pet: Nova * Current Age of Your Pet: 4 almost 5 * What is Their Breed?: Percheron 1. How did your pet come into your life? She came to our barn at 2 or 3 years old and her owner felt they were not connecting/her baby behaviors were scary because of her size. My husband is a big guy, and we did not have a horse he could ride. I asked him if maybe we should ask my friend if we could buy Nova from her, and to my surprise he said yes. I made an offer to my friend and she accepted! I bought her that same day. 2. Do they have any quirky personality traits or habits? YES! Shes going through the teenage horse years currently. Often horses go through their rebellious stage and with love and patience return to their normal easy-going selves. 3. What is your pet's favorite toy or treat? Shes a draft horse so she loves all food! Her favorite beer is pumpkin ale in October. Peppermints, apple/oat cookies I make for her, carrots. She does NOT like apples which blows my mind. 4. Who is their favorite human in your household? She likes everyone, but I think my husband is her favorite person. My theory is that whoever raised her and trained her was a big hairy guy who treated her very well haha. The bigger the guy the more puppy like she acts! 5. What is a special memory that you have with them? Last summer I suddenly became very sick while riding her. I wasn't sure if I could walk if I got off of her, but she was only 3 and could be unpredictable at times- so it was not a good situation. She must have noticed I was not ok, and her personality changed- she became very mature, was careful with her steps and took me back to the barn without a single fuss over anything.
