So I have had Faroese horses on the brain for a few months nos, so I'm going to be picking those up once the game changes over for the week tonight. I've been spending the last few days doing some research on the breed but one aspect of the breed has me really confused. So I am spreading out some feelers to see what other people think and help me in my decision!

So the confusion lies... is the Faroese horse a smaller version of an Icelandic with similiar proportions, or are they more like a little short and squat Shetland Pony? I know in hand-height the Faroese are similiar in height to the tallest Shetlands, but photos I've looked at depict them both as lean-Icelandic type and chunky-short-legged Shetland type. Is the breed like the Latvian (Who has Light and Draught versions) and has two completely different body types? Are image sources out of whack? XD

I am just sitting here trying to decide which version to go with for which lineart I pick for the breed and this makes it that much harder! So, even if you don't know much about the breed itself, help me pick! Should I go for the Icelandic type or the Shetland type?Β

I honestly didn't realize there were different ones. Of course, I never actually looked them up in any way.

The queen of farose horses here, on my layout I had a little write up about the breed on my page, but I'll post it here for you. :)

The Faroe pony, Faeroes pony, or Faroese horse, (FΓΈroyska rossiΓ°) is a small pony, with a height between 11.1 to 12.1 hands (45 to 49 inches, 114 to 124 cm). Technically this animal is a pony due to its height, but in the Faroe Islands it is called a horse because of its strength. Since the Faroe pony only lives on the Faroes, it is not well known in other countries. Currently, there are only 94 Faroe ponies left living on the Faroes

The colours of the pony may vary, but they are mainly chestnut brown, black or speckled, with some white ones found in previous populations. It is known to be a very enduring, strong, friendly, adaptable and sure-footed breed with four gaits including the tΓΆlt, an ambling gait which it shares with the Icelandic horse. A fully grown Faroe horse weighs 250-300 kilograms. Its winter coat is very long, dense and water repellent, while the summer coat is shorthaired and smooth.

Hope this helps you with your choice, would love to have another person that does faroese horses! If you have any questions about the breed, your more then welcome to message me! :)
