a way in which chat comments can be reported

This would be very handy!

Is this necessary? Unless I'm missing something I've never really seen anything report-worthy & more often than not there is a member of staff online to monitor the boards. 

Yes it is necessary adeina, mods arent always around to monitor chat and it can move at a rather fast pace at times

Because we can report everything else so why not have the option to report a post in chat?

I agree with Adeina, Nad, and Lady. 

99% of the time - there isn't anything really warning-worthy in chat to report. And if there is, it can be easily screenshot and sent to one of us mods cause 9 times out of 10, one of us is usually lurking around. 

Additionally.. the chat isn't like historical? So it doesn't get saved. So, with the way our reports work.. the chat message wouldn't even stay around long enough for it to be on the reporting section - if that makes sense? So, screenshots is the best/easiest way. 

Screen shots are definitely the best way when it comes to chat lines needing/wanting to be reported! I can sit and lurk in chat for hours every day and not see anything. Very rarely do i, or anyone other mods, need to use our mod voices in the chats. Usually it's as simple as someone just posting in the wrong chat, and that can be removed pretty quickly. 
If someone absolutely needs to report a chat line, take a screen shot of the line including player name and ID, and then you can go that players page and write an official report so it comes directly to us mods and we can take care of it from there. 😁

I dont see why we cant have a button on chat to report a screenshot.

Once a chat line disappears from view, it's not magically saved somewhere in the database for historical or future warning purposes. For this reason, a report button in chat will not be added.

I suggest, if anyone sees something they think is questionable in chat, take a screenshot, and report it via the report button on the player's page. You need to make sure the whole issue/conversation is included, as well as player names and the time stamp for whatever was said.
