I guess this doesn't really go here, but it kind of fits in here since it's about health, haha. Anyway, I get a lot of headaches, especially lately. What are some f the things you do to get rid of them or prevent them? I find that drinking water or gatorade (for electrolytes), an ice pack, a hot bath, and putting pressure on my head helps. Sometimes ibuprofen or tylenol will usually help, but not always. And also I think I have a sinus type headache. |

Have you had your eyes checked lately? You could need glasses if it's not 100% sinus related :/I have glasses from 2007 that I wear occasionally when I take my contacts out and if I wear them for too long I get headaches. |

Ohh, I didn't really think of that. Maybe I DO need my eyes checked. |

I have "chronic" migraines, and anyways, I take b-vitamin supplements. This vitamin is apparently lost through stress, which is most of the reason why I get migraines, and it's helped almost cut the amount I have in a month in half. Haha I know a migraines a little more extreme, but maybe taking 1 or so vitamins would help if you get them often. |

Migraine relief: Place both feet and hands in warm water (hotter then lukewarm, but not hot). So like sit in the bath, or on the counter, using the sink. Sounds like it would be uncomfortable, but it works! |

That does sound pretty uncomfortable binny! How long do you have to sit like that before you start feeling results? |

Reviving a zombie thread, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents since my mother is actually board certified in pain management and specializes in headaches. 70% of all non-migraine headaches are caused by dehydration. She usually tells her patients to drink 8 oz of water, take an NSAID of choice, eat something, and take a walk around the block. If none of those things work, for migraines she strongly recommends magnesium! It can be taken as an abortive or prophylactically on a daily basis (just be careful how much you take since it can have a laxative effect). This is really helpful for pregnant women with migraines since you can't take like anything when you're pregnant. Also massage :D Some insurances will partially cover monthly massages to help reduce headaches and migraines (in the US at least). I also know I've given diphenhydramine (along with toradol and compazine usually) to patients in the hospital with migraines. If nothing else, it knocks you out so you can sleep your migraine off! TL;DR: drink water, eat something, magnesium, massage, and benadryl. |

I found that I started getting fewer and less intense headaches after I got my eyes tested and my prescription lenses adjusted. Which was surprising to me because I thought my eyes were fine. |

I HAVE glasses, but I don't wear them. They're probably not the right prescription anymore anyway, haha. My eyes aren't that bad though, I just can't see details a long distance away. Sometimes I wonder though if part of the issue is how much time I spend staring at a screen on a daily basis? |

I'm suffering from a lot of headaches lately. I think my glasses are causing them as I never got an up-to-date pair, my contact lenses are okay but I'm due another eyetest soon so I'll buy some new glasses as well this time. Also too much sleep gives me a headache, and when I do have a headache sleep helps.. I can't win! But I do believe once I've got my new eye prescriptions all will be fine again! |

I read somewhere once that something like 70% headaches were due to dehydration. Just something to keep in mind ;D |

Yes I definitely get more in the winter because naturally I drink less but the central heating at home and work secretly zaps the moisture out of me. In the summer I'm fine because I'm normally working somewhere hot drinking like 3 litres a day! |

I have had killer headaches often for years... mostly tension headaches, but sinus/pressure headaches with weather changes and low pressure systems (if it's raining -> I have a headache!). I have found that the heating pad on my back/neck/shoulders helps the most, but I have also started going to a chiropractor and he practices ART (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Release_Technique) and it has made a WORLD of difference. I have headaches MUCH less often and I'm sleeping better, too!! |

OH - and sitting in a chair, staring at a computer definitely plays a huge role in headaches. I have started using a standing desk at home for part of my work, and I'm trying to get a standing desk implemented in my work space. When I work for a whole day sitting, I feel HORRIBLE at the end of the day. If I actually do stand up for all or most of the day, I feel 100x better and have so much more energy. It was hard to get used to standing up for so long, but if you have comfortable/supportive shoes, and your desk is at the correct height, it helps a ton and is easy to adjust to doing. |

Taking a magnesium vitamin everyday helps prevent them, I think a B vitamin helps to, and if you take the two together they reduce swelling :) Worked like magic for me. |
